Following a couple of collaborations in Detroit over the last 12 months, the trio debuted their full show in May 2018 at a sold out show at New York’s Elsewhere venue in Brooklyn, with further spots at Movement in Detroit and the new Adult Swim block party in LA later this autumn. The trio are re-presenting the music of Shigeto that carries across his entire recorded output of four albums plus myriad EPS and collaborations for Michigan’s vaunted Ghostly label.

Shigeto, Ian and Marcus have known known each other for years and are all immersed in the Detroit music world, each adding production and recording spells to their resumes. Amongst the musicians that Elliot and Ian have performed with are Karriem Riggins, Jimmy Cobb, Marcus Belgrave, and Talib Kweli.

A due anni dal suo ultimo tour europeo e a quattro dall’uscita di “No Better Time Than Now”, SHIGETO torna in tour per presentare il suo ultimo lavoro “The New Monday”, uscito il 6 ottobre 2017 per Ghostly International. Il nome dell’album è preso in prestito dal party che organizzava Shigeto stesso con alcuni amici a Detroit, denominato appunto Monday is the New Monday: «così il lavoro nasce dal rapporto con la comunità di Detroit ed è maggiormente orientato verso il dancefloor» parola di Zachary Saginaw, vero nome del producer e batterista jazz di Ann Arbor. Il suo quarto album in studio è un mix perfetto tra techno, jazz, hip hop e trap con tante collaborazioni da Zelooperz a Kaleena Zanders e Silas Green! The New Monday è un vero e proprio omaggio a Detroit e alla sua comunità di artisti, alla sua identità musicale e ai tanti stili che in essa convergono, un lavoro maturo e ambizioso, sofisticato, forse il punto più alto toccato sino ad oggi da Shigeto.

Zachary Shigeto Saginaw è esponente di punta della nuova scena sperimentale Hip-Hop americana, la stessa di cui fanno parte artisti come Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing, Shlohmo e Baths. Non è un caso che il suo album di debutto “Full Circle” sia uscito proprio per quella Ghostly International che nei primi anni duemila ha pubblicato seminali album per il genere come ‘One/Three’ di Dabrye. Shigeto unisce la lezione dei maestri alla propria sensibilità eclettica e senza barriere stilistiche aggiunge profondità e contenuti. Il suo background come batterista (in formazione live con School of Seven Bells) lo porta a lavorare partendo da una ricerca ritmica molto articolata; un turbinio in cui finiscono schegge di jazz, echi di elettronica antica e sub potenti diretti allo stomaco. Shigeto torna in Italia per un ricco calendario di date per presentare il suo nuovo album “No Better Time Than Now“
